Fruit Cups
A collection of all the fruit cups I've made so far!

Castle Sip Cups
Recently I took a trip to Germany and Austria, where there were lots of beautiful and traditional structures. One stood out to me in particular, the Naueshwanstein Castle. The interior walls were colorful, eclectic, grand, and traditional, unique to the culture. The vivid blues, reds, and greens, the dazzling gold details, the grandeur of the architecture, the imagery rich with history were so inspiring and I knew I needed to incorporate these elements into my art.
I wanted to do another cup design rooted in scripture, but had trouble pinning anything down until I was reminded of Psalm 23:6, which says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” To me, It’s such a “heavy hitter” verse. It carries power and hope, and feels safe, secure, and reliable.
I wanted these cups to reflect these beautiful buildings while also representing this specific Psalm. I loved how many of these paintings inside these buildings were beautiful yet worn-looking, grand, yet humble in a way, which to me, parallels the idea of God’s spirit residing in us. He wants His Spirit to take residence in us because He thinks we are lovely despite our imperfect nature. Goodness and mercy follow in this life because God is present and working. It’s “paradise now”.
These cups also intend to remind us of dwelling with God in a perfect world in our future. Looking at the wear and tear of these old or ancient buildings reminds us of the erosion life tends to bring, reminds us that God intends to fully restore this eroded life. We look past the degradation of these painted castle walls and see the potential, what the creator intended the paintings to do: to create a dwelling place that is extravagantly beautiful, enough to highlight and reflect the status and importance of the nobleman dwelling in the castle. In a similar way, we look at the potential of this world, and what God originally intended this earth to have for us: absolute brilliance, peace, satisfaction, joy, unity, beauty. All because he wants the best for us. He prepares a room for us in heaven, one with vibrant hues, shimmering details, and elaborate architecture. A complete and perfect home that highlights and reflects the extensive love He has for us.
I hope these can be a great reminder to you of the good that is the here and now and also the good that is to come.
I designed images and patterns in Procreate and turned them into little printmaking silk screens (using my Cricut machine) to decorate my hand-thrown sip cups. After glazing, I painted gold and silver luster sparkle details on some of the cups to add some shine! Each cup is unique, with different combinations of colors, patterns, and lusters on each one!

Citrus Cups
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
These citrus sip cups are the most popular cups here at third day clay! These citrus sip cups are designed to add some fun to your daily routines of drinking coffee, tea, water, orange juice, or maybe even lime or lemon juice (if that’s your style). The sip feature lets you savor your fun drinks by helping you sip a little bit slower.
These cups reflect the feel of actual citrus fruits from the various textures made and the glazes used when making.
These cups are all handmade! I threw and trimmed these cups on the pottery wheel, attached the lid by hand, added textures by stippling and drawing onto the clay, painted the details onto the cups with underglaze, and painted clear matte glaze on the exterior and clear glossy glaze on the interior. It’s definitely a more involved design but is well worth it!

Birds & Flowers Cups
The inspiration for these cups is from a passage in the Bible that says not to worry & to trust that God will provide.
In the passage, Jesus says to consider the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, consider how they thrive, how their basic needs are provided for without them really doing much on their own.
He says if God takes care of birds and flowers, which are of much less importance than humans, why wouldn’t He care for us in much greater ways?
“Are you not of more value than they?”
This passage has been huge for me when I find myself focusing on my anxieties and the “what-ifs” because it redirects my focus to God and His provision, which gives me peace.
Let these cups be a reminder to trust that God will provide for you - you are MUCH more valuable than the birds and the flowers that He takes care of!

Candy Heart Sip Cups
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Inspired by the conversation hearts, these cups have phrases like "Rock Star!", "XOXO", and "Sweet" painted on the outside!

Moon Sip Cups
"When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Psalm 8:3-9
A handmade cup that resembles the moon! Finished with a gray/white matte glaze! These sip cups are designed to add some fun into your daily routines of drinking coffee, tea, water, you name it! The sip feature lets you savor your fun drinks by helping you sip a bit slower.

Excitement
Slip casted bells from handmade plaster molds. Line blend of glazes to create a color gradient.
Excitement to me feels jumbled, overwhelming, loud, electric, alive, and in a way, peaceful. The objective of this work was to represent how I feel when I'm standing with others worshiping.

Ruach
The Hebrew word ruach means the breath, wind, and energy of the Holy Spirit, "a life force that sustains living things." To visually represent ruach, I installed tulle in an outdoor space to highlight light and movement of the energy and breath of the Holy Spirit. I chose a variety of skin colors for the tulle to represent the breath/wind/energy of the Holy Spirit in Christ's followers, giving us life and enabling us to "run the race set before us", to go out and do God's Work.

Why do I run to the things that hurt me?
Based off the question "why do I run to the things that hurt me?"
This work focuses on my faith and the frustration I have with finding myself at times running back to things that aren't sustainable, things that won't ultimately satisfy me.
In the humble frame on the left are images that show discipline. It's supposed to represent the spiritual disciplines, the things that will be the most beneficial in life, the things that will truly satisfy me.
In the gaudy frame on the right are images that represent the fun, exciting, enticing things. Things that would lure one in. The lights, the cars, the money, the stuff. Although it appears to be fine, there are cracks in the glass, creating an unstable foundation. Ultimately, this frame represents the things in life that will eventually crack and become worthless, will disappoint, will not last, will not sustain if a lot of trust is placed in these things.
Despite knowing all of this and all the good that comes from being disciplined in his faith, the child in the center still runs to the other frame.
Fall 2022. Image cut outs from books and magazines, glass panes, frames, LED lights

Doubt
With this work, I selected certain song lyrics to represent my changing thoughts, feelings, attitudes during a wave of doubt in my faith. Each print somewhat tells its own story or describes each stage of this experience (sheds light on some of the specifics). It also tells a bigger story with the start and end of this doubt, starting with a focus on deep-rooted and inbuilt flaws, progressing to worries, fears, reservations, and ending with somewhat of a hopeful tone, and represents thoughts like "this was only a point in time" or "this doesn't change anything about what I believe".
I started by taking a lyric from a song that fit my "narrative" and imagined what it would look like, taking into account the song's overall feel/tone. Because we were required to make 11 different prints for this project, we had to work quickly, which forced me to roll with whatever popped into my head first. Once I had an idea, I tried to find reference images of objects/scenes that fit what I had in mind for the individual print/lyric and then started the drawing and printing process.

Not Your Average Communion Cups
Four communion cup "prototypes" made to hold both the wafer and the liquid. Sometimes I find holding the plastic cup in one hand and the wafer in the other can feel a bit awkward. I often think about accidentally dropping one or the other when taking communion and wanted to create a cup that is more convenient to hold (and is also more appealing to the eye).
